Opening ceremonies?
9th-Aug-2008 09:15 pm
So our recording of the opening ceremonies didn't happen and when we went to watch it we got nothing. Does anybody know if there is any place online that you can watch the entire thing? I tried youtube but all they have are news clips etc.

This is from "Norddeutscher Rundfunk, a public radio and television broadcaster in Northern Germany" (as per Wikipedia), and the language is German. :) AFAIK due to the usual exigent copyright claims you won't be able to view any live streams online, but that said this is this is the first foreign broadcast whatsoever I've seen online, so kudos!

The EU's video stream isn't available outside of its own territory. If I can get any nations's streaming video online in the U.S., I'd like to hear about it, but apparently NBC has a death grip on video.

It has since been removed due to a "copyright claim by a third party." Feh!
10th-Aug-2008 02:40 am (UTC) - the nbc site has some videos

If you want a full English version, BBC iPlayer will be showing it for about a week. I'm not sure if it's available outside of the UK though. =/

Rights agreements pertain. I've written this up on Wiki:

It's always struck me as odd that I'm effectively restricted to my nation's coverage despite the global nature of the internet and the global nature of the event. Technically I could view a German network's coverage on my computer (or a Chinese network's coverage, or a Kenyan network's coverage, etc.), but legally I get dancing hamsters. I can't get a foreign TV screen on my computer monitor, at least not that I know of.

now NBCOlympics.com has the whole 52 minutes with Matt Lauer/Bob Costas commentary just like shown on NBC. Go to that site, and the link is on the right hand side of the screen. ITS GREAT! You will love it.
